Trevor... thanks for letting me know. "mytoaster" is still making its rounds after 3 years.

What's cool is that ThingSpeak has "status" messages just like Twitter. We have a customer using ThingSpeak for their own version of Twitter for Things. It's pretty cool.

I've been thinking a lot about this concept since I 'tripped over' this site a week or so ago.
If there was a way that a toaster could identify itself as a toaster (and a coffee-maker as a coffee-maker, etc) then it should be possible for the devices to relate and respond 'semi-autonomously' (beyond me how to actually achieve it though).
There could be libraries of 'tagged phrases' for each device type that are sent and responded to as circumstances change.
If the toaster is 'Toasting' ten times in 20 minutes (for example), a coffee-maker might say "That's a lot of toasting - you got a party going on?" - If a coffee-maker is being used repeatedly, a porch light might say "I hope that's de-cafeinated or somebody's going to be hyper"... A thought...

Items could form their own 'friends groups' based on postings or item type or whatever - and look for new 'things' to extend an invitation to...

[...] This is super simple as well. Using a screw terminal board, I just connected one wire to ground and the other to a digital input. The water meter contains a reed relay contact switch. As the meter reads each gallon of water, it connects and disconnects the switch. All ioBridge needs to do is read the numbers of times the switch closes to get the number of gallons used. The latest revision ioBridge modules have built in pull-up resistors, so I didn’t even need to add them myself (as done here with the Twittering Toaster) [...]
