If there was a way that a toaster could identify itself as a toaster (and a coffee-maker as a coffee-maker, etc) then it should be possible for the devices to relate and respond 'semi-autonomously' (beyond me how to actually achieve it though). There could be libraries of 'tagged phrases' for each device type that are sent and responded to as circumstances change. If the toaster is 'Toasting' ten times in 20 minutes (for example), a coffee-maker might say "That's a lot of toasting - you got a party going on?" - If a coffee-maker is being used repeatedly, a porch light might say "I hope that's de-cafeinated or somebody's going to be hyper"... A thought... Items could form their own 'friends groups' based on postings or item type or whatever - and look for new 'things' to extend an invitation to...
